The Oculus Rift finally will be released April with the hefty price tag of $600, the PC only VR headset will come in a bundle including an Xbox One for PC Controller, the headset, sensor, cables with the games EVE: Valkyrie and Lucky's Tales.

If you want this you will need to upgrade your PC to meet its specs

Graphics card: NVIDIA GTX 970 / AMD R9 290 equivalent or greater
Processor: Intel i5-4590 equivalent or greater
Memory: 8GB+ RAM
Output: Compatible HDMI 1.3 video output
Input: 3x USB 3.0 ports plus 1x USB 2.0 port
Operating system: Windows 7 SP1 64 bit or newer

If the Oculus is anything to go by, Sony will need to think very carefully where they price their Playstation VR headset which is also due out this year.

I remember when the CEO said it was going to be like $350, my initial reaction was "that's probably going to be bundled with a supercomputer for $2000!"

At $600, it's going to flop. The opening day sales will be extremely high, I expect it to sell out and shortages to occur driving up prices on Ebay and what not. But after the initial year or so, people will realize they paid $600 for a peripheral. Same way Kinect sold out incredibly well but was rarely used, same way Wii sold peripheral devices very well because many people who bought the Wii were looking for something different.

But in the end, peripherals crash and burn. Very high initial sales, awful long term sales until the product drops below profit price points. Same thing will happen to Sony's headset.
